| Who is Darwin Porter? Blood Moon is proud to be the publisher of works by Darwin Porter, one of the most prolific writers in the world. He has keenly observed the Hollywood scene since he worked, beginning at the age of 20, as an entertainment columnist and later, bureau chief, for The Miami Herald. Referring to himself as a "social historian," he specializes in sagas, some of them brutal, all of them artful, showcasing some aspect of the history of America during the 20th century. Many of his insights derive from extensive interviews with eyewitnesses to situations that Hollywood publicists once worked feverishly to suppress. Porter's writing is edgy and well-crafted. His non-fiction works are grounded in fact, using respected journalistic techniques based on decades of experience at major publications. In many cases, the revelations they contain, although sometimes commonly traded among Hollywood insiders, have never been revealed to the general public before. Well-respected biographies by Darwin Porter have included the life stories of Humphrey Bogart, Katharine Hepburn, Howard Hughes, and the lives of many of the movie stars of Hollywood's Silent Era. For more on any of these titles, please refer to this website's companion website, www.BloodMoonProductions.com Aside from his writing about Hollywood and the entertainment industry, Porter is the co-author of more than 800 editions of the Frommer Travel Guides to destinations that include most of Europe, the Caribbean, the Carolinas, and Georgia. He's also a regular monthly columnist ("Hollywood Remembered") for Senior Life and Boomer Times, a widely distributed magazine in South Florida, and a frequent guest on radio programs throughout the United States. When not traveling, which is rare, Darwin lives in New York City, with frequent excursions to Europe (especially London), and California. |

| What is Blood Moon Productions? Here's how the April 5, 2005 newsletter of New York City's Small Press Center for Independent Publishing described Blood Moon Productions: Small Press Finds a Niche in Old Hollywood: Established by a consortium of professional journalists, Staten Island, NY-based Blood Moon Productions has carved its niche by publishing provocative biographies of the stars who reigned during Hollywood's Golden Age. Blood Moon's recently released biography of Howard Hughes, Howard Hughes: Hell's Angel, by Darwin Porter, has benefited from renewed interest in the eccentric billionaire generated by Martin Scorcese's 2004 blockbuster film, "The Aviator." The biography was published in serial installments by the British weekly, The Mail on Sunday, and its release was pushed up to coincide with the Academy Awards ceremony. Future subjects of Blood Moon biographies will include Marlon Brando (click on the Brando Unzipped button on this page's navigation bar, on this page's upper right-hand side), Ronald Reagan, Elizabeth Taylor, and several tomes devoted to the best of Babylon-style gossip. |
